P.S. I wish I could get your signatured photoRed heart, Kim Taek Soo. You are my favorite Ping Pong Player. The Chinese Ping Pong team is there for you to taste the sweetness of victory after all the bitterness! You are always the best, most traditional penholder.

See Through

Living a life without understanding the goal of oneself is catastrophic. Living a life understanding the goal of oneself but cannot follow after the goal is more painful. In a country like the U.S., one's goal is easily abandoned.
A country of diversity with merit capable people makes each individual unnoticeable unless the person is one of a kind, which hardly is the case. In order to be outstanding among other people who are at least as good as you, passion, a thoughtful mind, and eyes of discovery are mandatory. However, these requirements could not be achieve unless the person is extremely profound of the job. Everybody is not interested in a job that is largely requested by a country, thus, a lot of people abandon their original interests and follow the path which will lead them to a stable job and high salary. These people would not be able to produce any extraordinary contributions to the society or the humanity. Instead, they represent the tremendous ability of human being adapting to the surrounding environment. A world of creativities and innovations does not have excessive needs of accommodating people. The world nowadays needs people that could imagine and put the imagination to applications.
Under those conditions, a person could not easily find a place in the U.S. that suites them the best. As the urgent needs for a living, most people would choose to find a place that gives them the best repayment as well as requires the least thinking. A country sinks, in an astonishing speed, with a majority of people thinking so and doing so.

Whispered out of Dark

Laughter comes from two girls who sneak out of their houses for a horse ride. For no longer, however, the happiness will last. As the horses confronting a hill covered with snow, the girls force them to go up without foreseeing the danger. One girl’s horse slipped dragging her and the other horse with the other girl on. While the horses are fighting to get up on their feet, a truck comes just in time killing one girl with her horse immediately while badly injuring the other girl and her horse. Grace MacLean, the girl luckily being alive, is so severely hurt that she has to give her right leg up: amputation! Her horse is not so good either; despite the physical trauma it has while trying to save Grace, it is psychologically disturbed: violent and uncontrollable. Grace’s mother, Annie, is asked whether the horse could be put down; while sighting her daughter’s depression and lack of positivism to life, she disagrees. Instead, she looks for a way to save the horse, and that is the only way to save her daughter. Tom Booker, the horse whisperer, is being contacted by Annie knowing he is a specialist in horse training. After Tom rejects the request of coming to New York and taking a look at the horse, Annie decides to take the horse and her daughter to where Tom lives: Montana. Grace does not understand the behavior of her mother and thinks that she was doing that to make her a perfect mother. The truth, however, is the exact opposite. After a while in Montana without returning to her work, Annie lost her very good job: a magazine editor. With the horse healing every day, Grace becomes more positive and understands her mother more, and Annie falls in love with Tom. With everything getting back on track, Grace’s father, Robert MacLean; comes for a visit to his daughter and it is the visit of Robert that brings Annie back to truth—she is married. With her daughter and husband happily leave the ranch, Annie knows that she does not belong here. She asked for the last ride with Tom to gain a distance from him so that she can leave without being in extreme sorrow. Annie leaves, without giving time to Tom to say the last goodbye.
The major characters in this film would be Tom, Annie, Grace, and the horse Pilgrim. Pilgrim is the central connection to all the events and characters in this movie. A horse that saves its owner is remarkable: “I think that damned horse loved you so much he was tryin' to protect you.” Annie, Grace’s mother, is a robust woman that has the force to haul a horse behind her van and drive for more than one day just to get what she thinks is right done. Just as all the women, however, Annie has her soft part. She falls in love with Tom very easily and becoming more emotional through out the movie. Since Grace’s amputation of her leg, she is self exclusive: “Who's going to want me now?” The healing of the horse is the process of Grace gaining back her confidence and positivism. All these accomplishment has a crucial ingredient—Tom Booker. Tom whispers not only to the horse, but also to Grace. Tom told Grace about a boy who snaps his neck while diving in to a lake and paralyzed him: “The boy I once knew just went somewhere else.”
Grace: “I know where he goes.”
Tom: “I know you do. Don’t you disappear.”
While Tom heals the horse, he heals the scar of a young girl, giving her the confidence to be alive.
Montana is the major place that the story takes place in. Montana is known for its beautiful mountains and lack of population. Ranches are far from rare. With a place like that, people usually feel the greatness of the earth and the insignificance of themselves. This feeling opens their mind and makes people feel how worthy life could be. Grace, for example, has her mind wide open to the nature where all lives are treated equally, and she realized that losing a part of the body is not as hopeless as she thinks. A ranch is one place that all people should see before they die.
“The Horse Whisperer” is rich in the emotional changes of the major characters, which gives the audience the expectation of the next plot. Symbolism is well used in the movie where Tom performs his trick of the string: while life is as complicated as a tangled string, the answer might be as simple as pulling it. With every single detail has its meaning, the movie is well directed. I personally enjoyed the movie well because the love of open sight and low popularity. A movie starts with an accident usually makes me sad on the other hand. The only thing that could make me feel better is that Judith, the girl kill in the first scene, is not dead. The movie ended realistically comparing to most other perfect ending movies, in which the hero and heroine get married and lives happily ever after. Trying to avoid direct contact with Tom, which will weaken the force of Annie to go back, she asks for the last ride to produce a distance between Tom and her. Within that moment, she drives off, leaving only the memory behind.

Does Wikipedia Help?

Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia on the internet that provides tremendous information for people. Since Wikipedia is for all the people, it is made by all the people. Everybody is free to create and modify the content in Wikipedia. Therefore, a question has been raised, is the accuracy of the information on Wikipedia is high enough for scholars and any other people. In other words, does Wikipedia hurt scholarship?
Thomas Locke believes that Wikipedia is a useful tool for scholars. His experience “has shown that wikis promotes and inspire scholarship.” Since the information on Wikipedia is ready to be changed every second, scholars have to read the information critically. Just as Locke informed, “Changes to a wiki are immediately ‘published’ for the entire world to see,” whenever a mistake appears, there will always be innumerable people looking at it and correcting it. As a result, the materials on Wikipedia have been refined by lots of people who are interested in the particular topic. Locke’s opinion is that Wikipedia does not hurt scholarship.
On the other hand, Dixie Andersen strongly suggests that Wikipedia is a harm to scholars due to the inaccuracy of the information. She is negative about the allowance of anyone to create and edit the information by giving the example of an entry on “Wikipedia’s biography of John Seigenthaler,” which appeared to be a joke after John Seigenthaler “became aware of the article.” She considered this might mislead whoever has no idea of what actually happened to believe that is the truth. Students, a group of people that can be easily confused, could be victims to Wikipedia. Students’ researches are highly dependent on the World Wide Web and students have no hesitance to “accept with out question the first hit on the web—Wikipedia,” however the accuracy is. Andersen, being responsible to students, thinks that Wikipedia hurt scholarship in an exclusive way.
I see Dixie Andersen has a stronger point of view than Thomas Locke according to the sufficient evidence she provides. Andersen provided a complete story about a “joke” that was posted on Wikipedia for over four months while Locke provides a large amount of general information.
Wikipedia is made by people, so there is no way that every single piece of information on Wikipedia is one hundred percent accurate. People who founded Wikipedia have a kind origin. They want to provide a service so that other people can find information easily. But it would be difficult to gather a large amount of information by a small group of people alone. Therefore, they made Wikipedia open for everyone to create articles. Just like Andersen says, a person who creates an article has his/her bias on it, or even totally wrong. That is why Wikipedia also allow people to change a particular article with their own opinions. Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia that possibly the most abundant in information on the Internet. It does not have funds from government or profit from their product to perform researches on every topic to confirm its accuracy. Therefore, Wikipedia is a great source for references rather than accurate information.  Scholars who do not have critical thoughts on the information they obtained do not deserve a correct answer. I support Wikipedia because it is doing a really good job on giving people rough ideas about the object they searched. It is people’s responsibility to keep the information on Wikipedia correct as they think. With a combination of thoughts of millions of people, the information should be considered correct.
